The final step is to abrade the wood with sandpaper and apply two or three coats of varnish. At this stage you should see your project almost ready. Screw the corners and attach a screw right through the four corners. Cedar is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects. Lattice allows plenty of sunlight through with 1-3/4 wide openings. Each lattice lath measuring 7/16 thick by 1-3/4 wide. This western red cedar panel measures 4’ by 8’ (48 x 96) and 7/8 thick. Now take the other four strips and again place them on top of the previous frame. Heavy duty cedar lattice in a square pattern. Drill in 2 screws on each side of the frame. These should be about 4 inches in width each. You will need eight strips to build your frame. Having hammered all the staples, take the screwdriver and using the tip, hammer the staples into the wood. Turn it upside down and bend the staples with the hammer. Make a border, using four strips around the lattice to maintain this one whole. It might happen that when fastening the strips with staples, the latter tend to penetrate through the two strips. Having finished doing so, start stapling all strips together. Use the template to gain the same width from one strip to another. Continue placing the strips alongside until you fill in the rectangle. At this stage, it is advisable to fasten this strip with a staple at both ends. The trellis is supplied without a capping attached. All our heavy duty, square, lattice, trellis fence panel range is a full 6ft - 1.83m wide. At this stage be careful not to bump the strips as otherwise you will have to restart again. However, it is still made from 16mm x 38mm battens nailed with ring shank nails. All strips are to be cut at a 45-degree angle. Now that you have the first two strips aligned, use the template mentioned in step 1 and continue placing strip by strip diagonally until you fill in the rectangle. This will automatically provide you with a template for the width between the two strips. A good tip is now to have a piece of wood of a width of 4 inches and place it on both strips. Take a second strip of wood and lay 2 inches away from the first strip. Now taking a strip of wood one inch in width, place diagonally on the board and cut at a 45-degree angle on both sides. Draw a rectangle with a size of 2 feet by 1½ feet. Place a board of hardboard on a worktable or a flat surface. Here we will be constructing a wooden square lattice of about 2 feet by 1½ feet.
