It seems to be a type of book that people of that era would have read aloud, quite possibly performed live, and many of the strongest voices with in the story are the women. The premise of good versus evil- redemption, travail, love and loss, is told in a myriad of different styles of writing. This book was meant to be read aloud, from the imagery of the New England storm to the lyrical prose and the scripted dialogue style. We randomly select books from its collection to read aloud at the museum once a week.
